Om shanti!  We are in Shantivan. Everyday is a big day here, we had flag-hoisting yesterday. There are so many campuses, so many big buildings. Everyone wants to celebrate Shiv Jayanti. One of the simple ways of celebration is flag-hoisting. I like the praise of Shiv Baba: Satyam-Shivam-Sundaram! God is the truth, and the knowledge He gives is the truth. He is the embodiment of truth and only truth. So when there is truth you will be the embodiment of light and power. Shivam means benevolent, bringing benefit. Sunderam means beautiful. We also have to apply this to ourselves. It can’t be truthful if you get angry or feel there is no justice, this causes a lot of useless thoughts in the mind. Many talk about how this or that is happening. I don’t know from where they come to know these stories.  It is a kind of habit but we have to be very careful, keep to our good manners and our good words. Baba is saying that the sign of good manners is humility. Sometimes we make very big statements that might not be true. Never immediately believe in any unsubstantiated story, stay very humble. The truth will be known eventually. Sign of truth is having good manners. When you are truthful and have the power of truth, you will never stop having good manners. You may have to prove the truth, but do this with good manners. By trying to prove that something is true while letting go of your good manners, you will be unable to prove it. The sign of the lack of good manners is stubbornness. Those who live a life of truth will have humility, constantly remain humble and always interact with others in good manners. So truth and good manners go together. We have one brother living in New York, he was kind of innocent. He was working in a store. Outside the store generally they keep newspapers. So there are some people who have a natural habit of stealing. One person used to come and steal the newspaper. So this brother, who is Baba’s child, called the police to complain that he was stealing. The thief was very clever, when police came he started complaining about this brother being the one stealing the newspaper and other things. The police, without asking any questions, arrested the brother. This brother was sitting in the police station, with legs crossed and smiling. He didn't understand what was happening? He called the police but the police arrested him. He was laughing because the situation seems so comical. So the police officer said,”You did steal and on top of that you are laughing.” So he said,”I didn't steal, I never steal.” So they started using force so that he would admit that he was stealing. He maintained his innocence. After some time the police realized that he was the one who called. Then they realized their mistake, they arrested him without proper investigation. They released him, so he came and told us the story of how he was laughing, because he didn’t do anything wrong. Sometimes you can get nervous and scared, but if you haven’t done anything wrong, then there is no fear. It is very interesting to see that when you are honest and truthful you can remain very light. So think of stories of truth  and good manners.

Om Shanti
